The Son is Constant

From the porch swing:

A brilliant red ribbon of light was just starting to crest the top of the trees. I waited with anticipation for it to rise and to feel the warmth of the sunlight on my face. The sun appears to be moving but it actually is the consequence of the earth orbiting the sun and rotating about its axis.

As I contemplated this the Lord whispered, "The Son is constant. It's the earth that turns."

Within moments the glimpse of the sun disappeared behind a bank of dark clouds.

The Lord whispered again, "The Son is constant, even when circumstances cloud your vision of Him."

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 NIV

To me, the busyness of Christmas time can be like a of clouds that eclipse our thoughts of Him. I'm thankful it's over--now I can connect with the Lord without the clutter of all the holiday stuff. '

Do you feel, at times, that the Lord is far away? I fear it is we who have moved. We get distracted, and our thoughts move far away from Him. It may feel that He has distanced Himself, but it is the "earth that turns, the Son is constant." He never moves away.

Another blessing that never changes is God's Word. It's so reassuring to know there is a Voice that never lies, never shifts to match the times, one that is always consistent and sure.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8 ESV

The way the world is now, we must keep our focus on those things that never change. We have to hold on to the surety of His Word, and His presence through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

"Because of the LORD's loving devotion we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! 'The LORD is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in Him" (Lamentations 3:22-24 Berean Study Bible).

Until the next time . . . Love, Marji
